JUSTIFICATION FOR THE FOUNDATION

Stroke is the leading cause of disability in adulthood and one of the most causes of disability in productive years. It is the major contributor to drastic decline in quality of life and productivity globally. The burden of stroke has far reaching effect as it affects the stroke survivors, the informal caregivers, the families, the healthcare system and the society at large. Because the onset of stroke is usually sudden, it meets both the stroke patients/survivors and their family unprepared thereby resulting in emotional, financial and physical distress. Most importantly, because stroke is a chronic disabling condition and the rehabilitation process takes a long time and process, patients and their relatives usually are not able to cope with the financial demand for effective rehabilitation. Hence, most stroke survivors either disabled and unproductive becoming burden to the family or die when it is not meant to be.
